1 Identity-Giving FunctionFunção Identitária
Function class
ScrapingFunction ⊑ DesignedFunction
Realized in
ScrapingProcess ⊑ PlannedProcess
The identity-giving function is the mechanical removal of deposits, debris, scale, paraffin, or other contaminants from internal surfaces. This is consistently described across all sources as the defining capability that makes a scraper a scraper, regardless of its specific physical configuration or deployment method.
2 Genus DeterminationDeterminação do Gênero
MaterialArtifactbfo:Object (BFO_0000030)
No appropriate domain-specific superclass exists in the parent candidates or enriched classes. A scraper is a causally unified engineered artifact designed for a specific function, typically deployed as a single maintainable unit. While some scrapers may have removable components (blades, brushes), they function as integrated tools rather than multi-component assemblies requiring separate maintenance of subcomponents.
3 Differentia SpecificaDiferença Específica
∃bearerOf.ScrapingFunction

An artifact that bears a scraping function for mechanically removing deposits or debris from surfaces.

The scraping function is the minimal and essential differentia that distinguishes scrapers from other tools and artifacts. It specifies the mechanical action of removing surface deposits while being more specific than general cleaning or maintenance functions.
4 Necessary PartsPartes Necessárias

No necessary parts recorded.

The scraping element is the only universally necessary part - the specific form varies by subtype (blades for paraffin scrapers, brushes for pipeline pigs, cutting teeth for casing scrapers) but some scraping mechanism must always be present.

TransformationTransformação
mechanical removal of surface contaminants through scraping action
The characteristic process signature involves taking a contaminated surface and mechanically removing deposits to produce a cleaned surface and separated waste material.

Filter Separator
C4: Separator. C?: Filter [kind_ambiguous]. Scrapers use mechanical surface contact for material removal, while filters and separators rely on physical separation principles without direct mechanical scraping contact.
