A swing check valve is a check valve that has a closure member consisting of a disc which swings freely on a hinge mechanism and opens automatically when flow is established and closes automatically when flow ceases or reverses.
PT-BR

Function class
BackflowPreventionFunction ⊑ DesignedFunction
Realized in
BackflowPreventionProcess ⊑ FlowControl
The identity-giving function is inherited from check valve - preventing reverse flow. This is the same function as already enriched check valve class, so reusing the exact function name.
2 Genus DeterminationDeterminação do Gênero
CheckValvebfo:Object (BFO_0000030)
Check valve is the most specific appropriate superclass, already enriched in our ontology with BackflowPreventionFunction. Swing check valve is a structural subtype of check valve, distinguished by its hinged disc mechanism. The parent_candidates list includes CHECK VALVE from iso15926, confirming this genus selection.
3 Differentia SpecificaDiferença Específica
∃hasComponentPartAtAllTimes.HingedDisc ⊓ ∃hasComponentPartAtAllTimes.SwingArm

Has a closure member that is a disc which swings freely on a hinge mechanism.

The differentia captures the essential structural elements that distinguish swing check valves from other check valve types: the hinged disc that swings freely. This mechanism enables automatic opening/closing based on flow direction through gravitational and flow forces acting on the disc.
4 Necessary PartsPartes Necessárias
Part classParentRelation
SwingCheckValveBodyMaterialArtifacthasComponentPartAtAllTimes
These parts are structurally necessary for the swing check mechanism to function. The hinged disc and swing arm constitute the core differentiating mechanism, while the valve seat is required for sealing.

TransformationTransformação
backflow prevention through automatic closure
Single inlet/outlet with automatic closure mechanism that prevents reverse flow while allowing forward flow. The transformation is purely directional control without changing fluid properties.
