1 Identity-Giving FunctionFunção Identitária
Function class
FlowIndicationFunction ⊑ IndicationFunction
Realized in
FlowIndicationProcess ⊑ PlannedProcess
The identity-giving function is to visually display or indicate flow rate measurements to human operators. This is distinct from flow measurement (sensing) or flow signal transmission - it specifically involves presenting flow information in a human-readable format.
2 Genus DeterminationDeterminação do Gênero
Indicatorbfo:Object (BFO_0000030)
While the source lists FLOW MEASURING INSTRUMENT, INDICATOR, and INSTRUMENTATION ITEM as parents, the most specific appropriate genus is Instrument. Flow indicators are specialized instruments that both measure and display flow. The genus is not enriched in our current ontology but is the logical superclass for measurement and display devices.
3 Differentia SpecificaDiferença Específica
∃bearerOf.FlowIndicationFunction ⊓ ∃hasComponentPartAtSomeTime.FlowElement

Distinguished by being designed to indicate flow rates using a flow measuring element for human-readable display.

The differentia combines the specific indication function with the requirement for a flow element. This distinguishes it from other indicators (different measured parameter) and from flow transmitters (indication vs. transmission).

Part classParentRelation
FlowElementMaterialArtifacthasComponentPartAtAllTimes
Flow indicators require both measurement capability (flow element) and display capability (display element) to fulfill their designed function of indicating flow rates.

TransformationTransformação
measurement transduction and visual presentation
Takes a flowing fluid as input and produces visual information output showing the flow rate. The transformation involves sensing the flow and converting to visual display format.

FlowTransmitter
C?: FlowTransmitter [kind_ambiguous]. Incompatible process signatures: flow indicators output visual information for local display, while transmitters output electrical signals for remote monitoring, and controllers output control actions for flow manipulation
